Dear partners,

We want to inform you that starting July 1st 2024 (the effective date), new apps will not be able to be published with a monetization system external to monday.com. When monetizing your apps, you will be able to use the monday native monetization.

Our monetization handles the entire payment and billing process, it takes the hassle out of billing users and processing payments, giving you more time to focus on building and improving your app. We are constantly upgrading and improving our native capabilities and are committed to continue focusing on it.
This change does not affect existing apps, and it will be applicable to new apps submitted after the effective date.

hi @Ronit

We have 15+ apps in the marketplace and still expanding. The reason we are not using monday monetization is that one-time fees (perpetual licenses) are not supported. Does this change mean we are forcing our customers to subscription models?

Hey bas,! All apps published before July 1st will remain in the same model. The change is only for new apps.

Hi Ronit.

Yes, I did read that. But for future apps listed on the marketplace you are forcing customers into a subscription model. Our customers are used to a one-time fee for our apps, so this either leaves me the choice of forcing the customer to a subscription model or just don’t develop app for monday anymore.

For me, this is a not acceptable change.

I understand that this doesn’t fit your current pricing strategy, however at the moment we don’t offer one-time payments through our monetization, so in order to developer more apps on the marketplace you’ll have to adjust your pricing strategy to a subscription model.
An option for one-time payments might change in the future, however it’s not on our roadmap currently.

It is shameful that you are forcing developers into your monetization engine. For me it is a reason to rethink our strategy too an start focusing on developing apps for other platforms that does not demand their pricing models.

@Ronit I would like to clarify:

  1. We already have an app on the marketplace. Will it be possible to publish external monetization for it?
  2. Will the monetization remain optional for new apps? What I mean is: suppose we have a SaaS platform that only offers paid subscriptions, and we want to publish an app on the Monday marketplace that provides integrations and automations for our platform. We will still be able to publish this app without monetization, correct?
    Thanks!

Hello there @Timelines,

  1. This only affects new apps. It does not affect apps that are already in the marketplace.

  2. You can still create more apps and share them in the marketplace for free if that is the question 😀.

Cheers,
Matias
