Use of Monday.com logo and branding in external pages

I had a conversation with @dipro today regarding this. Basically, we agreed that we will use Monday.com design system, but not Monday.com logo.

Perfect @AlexSavchuk. My understanding is that the most important point is that there should be no possible confusion between our services and Monday.com, ie nobody should think that we are afiliates in any way.

@AlexSavchuk what about using the Monday loading gifs in a dashboard widget?
Thinking of the ubiquitous bouncing “M”.

That’s an awesome question!

I believe the same logic would apply. Since the app is built on your end, I would recommend introducing your own loading animation as well in order to avoid confusion for our users - that way, they’d know for sure that the app is built by your team. 🙂

Haha, I don’t mean to be disingenuous but myself, and possibly others, will need help navigating things because one of the stated goals of the hackathon is:

“The user experience your app provides, the UI/UX quality, following the monday.com design system and ‘monday like’ app - how much your app feels like a monday product.”

So it sounds like there’s a line between “feeling like a Monday product” and “feeling exactly like a Monday product”.

I’m… unclear how to navigate that line, but I can certainly swap out the loading gif, and I’ll happily work through anything else that’s “too much like Monday.com” (or whatever the criteria/line is), if something else comes up during review of the app.

Sorry for the novel… In short, happy to comply, but maybe not totally sure how. 😅

Thank you for providing further context to what your thought process here is! I appreciate it, and I’d rather read a community-written novel like this than a 6-word story when it comes to building apps, if that makes sense 🙂

I’ll double-check on this with the team just to make sure here, but from my understanding, the loading GIF would make more sense to make your own to avoid the app being perceived as built by our team. We wouldn’t want to take credit for your hard work, and in my opinion, seeing the monday.com logo on a 3rd-party app might be a little counter-intuitive for users that might end up getting issues with using the app - who should they reach out to?

I’d say the branding should be made with our design guidelines and overall look of the platform in spirit, but not to be a carbon-copy. Do you think that approach makes sense to apply?

Let me restate it and see if it makes sense to you.

• In terms of UI, matching Monday as close as possible is great, and encouraged.
• In terms of branding, which includes the logo and loading animations (which I didn’t realize was considered branding, but does make sense since it’s the “M”), use our own.
